Trademarks are simply brand identifiers.  Trademarks are valuable investments jealously protected by their owners from misuse.  All owners of trademarks have requirements for the use of their trademarks.  You better believe that unauthorized use of a trademark will result with some form of legal action.

Trademark notice. Use of the TM (trademark) or SM (service mark) in superscript form (^TM or ^SM) is available to anyone without registration. Use of the R-in-a-circle ® can not be used until the specified identifier has been registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
