Samples
The series of pages that include samples are listed below.
- Animated Graphics
- Animated Graphics are normally GIF images
programmed to move from here to there or to change on some timed
interval. Animation can be accomplished in a variety of
ways. Animation can be overdone. Many people don't
want to wait for graphics to download and don't think they are
useful. So, be careful.....less is sometimes better.

- Backgrounds, Highlights and Watermarks
- A Background, Highlight or Watermark Element is
defined as any graphic element which applies to a whole page, a
whole table or a whole paragraph. Normally text is
positioned on top of a background element but a graphic (clipart
or photo) can be surrounded by the background, highlight or
watermark.

- Navigation Buttons
- Buttons are any graphic element which is used to
activate a hyperlink or some action, such as starting a sound or
a video. Buttons can be animated to some extent, normally
through the use of a roll-over effect or a changing image.

- Cookies and Forms
- A cookie can be used to provide a web site with information about the
viewer. A cookie has a life set by the web site and can be as
short as a few seconds or infinite (until the user erases the cookie).
Normally cookies are used in conjunction with forms to provide
a method for holding information as the viewer moves from page
to page within a web site; e.g., a shopping cart application.
In addition, cookies can be used to store a user's web site ID and
password and other information used for personalizing web site pages.
Cookies are not able to cause viruses or to damage a user's hard disk
or other computer programs.

- Graphics, Clipart
- Clipart Graphics are non photographic
images. They can be created with a computer drawing program
or purchased from an on-line service or from a software store on
a computer disc. It is possible to obtain free graphics
on-line from certain websites. See the Links page in this
sub-web for links to websites that offer clipart for sale or for
free.
Caution: Graphics are subject to
copyright and licensing laws. Be sure any graphic used on a
web site can legally be used. That is, you must create, or
have paid for the creation of, an original graphic and own the
copyright; or, you must execute a licensing agreement for any
other graphics used on your web site.

- Graphics, photos
- Photographic Images are either black and white or
color photographs. As with Clipart Graphics, you can create
your own photographs with a film or digital camera; or, you can
acquire photographs at a computer store or from a web site (paid
or free). See the Links page in this sub-web for links to
websites that offer photographs for sale or for free.
Caution: Photographs are subject
to copyright and licensing laws. Be sure any photos used on
a web site can legally be used. That is, you must create,
or have paid for the creation of, an original photograph and own
the copyright; or, you must execute a licensing agreement for any
photographs used on your web site.
- Sounds or Music
- Sounds or Music are graphic elements used in some
websites. Due to the download time and irritation factor,
there must be a valid reason for using sounds. Also, sounds
normally will activate a sound player on the user's computer; or,
to put it another way, the sound may not play on the user's
machine if they do not have the necessary player plug-in or
helper application for their browser.
Caution: Sounds and Music are
subject to copyright and licensing laws. Be sure any Sounds
or Music used on a web site can legally be used. That is,
you must create, or have paid for the creation of, original
Sounds or Music and own the copyright; or, you must execute a
licensing agreement for any Sounds or Music used on your web
site.

- Stuff
- The stuff page has samples of programmed objects
which can be used when appropriate.

- Themes
- Themes are the common graphic elements used
throughout a web site. Themes provide the consistency of
appearance that allows a viewer to feel comfortable as they page
through your web site. Samples of themes may be seen in the
Web Themes section below.
See Web Themes below.
- Transitions
- Transitions are graphic
effects that occur when the viewer moves from one page to
another or with text or images on a page. Transitions can easily be
overdone and can cause
frustration (due to the time required to display a
transition). Some viewers are irritated by page transitions
because the viewer just wants to read the next page and does not
enjoy the cute visual effect that happens when moving from page to page.

- Typestyles
- Samples of typestyles are included on the
Typestyles sample page. However, be sure to read the
discussion about
Typographical Graphic Elements
in this sub-web.

- Video
- Video should only be used for a specific
purpose. The download time of a video file is so time
consuming that special "streaming" technology should
always be used. Also, the viewer must have a plug-in
program which will display the video. Obviously, videos and
the websites utilizing videos can be extremely expensive.
We'll be pleased to work with videos but only on a job quote
basis. For sample videos, go to the Links Page in this
sub-web and look for the heading: Video.

- Web Site Samples
- Sample webs are displayed from the index on the
Web Site Sample Page. Sample web sites include both good and bad
examples of web themes and navigation styles. There are
infinite possibilities for designing webs. These sample
pages are merely examples of different styles.
Included in the sample web sites are examples of Simple, Semi-Complex and
Complex web sites.
